“1011.1.2

To whom it may concern at the Masters’ Academy,

My name is Reia Vardos and I’m a ten year-old mage.  I have studied magic extensively using the resources available to me and am ready for further study at the Academy.  I would like to know more about the admission process.

Thank you for your assistance,

Reia Vardos”

“1011.2.2

Dear Mx. Vardos,

Please submit a recommendation from a monarchy-acknowledged master, as is standard for all applications.  We look forward to reviewing your application.

Sincerely,

Master Lansin

Admission Department, The Masters’ Academy”

“1011.2.6

Dear Master Lansin,

Unfortunately, I do not have the economic means to get an evaluation from a master, though I’d be happy to be tested if you sent one to me or provided funds for me to travel to one.  I have included a recommendation letter from a skilled mage who I have trained with.  I must note that, based on your current admissions procedure, the monarchy is missing out on many talented magic users who are just as skilled as those admitted to the academy.  It would be to the Academy’s own benefit to rethink this policy.

Sincerely,

Reia Vardos”

“1011.2.6

To whom it may concern,

Reia is an incredibly talented young mage who has excelled under my tutelage.  She is especially talented in illusion magic and comes up with many creative and unique ways to use the spells she’s learned.  She is a voracious reader, which helps her to learn quickly.  She has covered the basics of cutting, healing, enhancement and movement magic.  She also has a unique talent for spotting the traces left behind by spells.

She’s punctual and well-spoken.  She’s enthusiastic about learning and incredibly perseverant.  There is no problem she can’t solve, because she will stick with it until she finds a solution.  She’s remarkably independent not only academically but in the rest of her life as well, where she basically takes care of herself due to her mother’s death.

She is excited to learn more and would be a great student for the Academy.  I cannot speak highly enough of her.  I sincerely hope you accept her into the Academy, though she will be missed here in Kaerisnen.

Regards,

Lusenda Arbitt

Mage of Kaerisnen”

“1011.3.6

Dear Master Lansin,

I’m just checking in to make sure you received my last letter, as it has been a month since I sent it with no response.  I included a recommendation letter from a local mage.  I would appreciate acknowledgement of receipt, at the very least.

Thank you again,

Reia Vardos”

“1011.3.15

Mx. Reia Vardos,

Thank you for your letter. Our constitution requires all admitted students to present a recommendation from a monarchy-acknowledged master. The academy cannot help students in acquiring such a recommendation, as I’m sure you can understand that would grant those students an unfair advantage. If you manage to obtain a master’s recommendation, we can reconsider the issue of your admission.

Best of luck.
